SCIEMUN 2023:The Glorious Return and Triumph

From November 3-5, SCIE held its annual MUN conference at its Antuoshan campus. With the cancellation of our 2020 conference and the transition online for 2022, SCIEMUN this year finally returned to its offline status, cordially inviting delegates from Basis Park Lane Harbor (BIPH), Desheng International School, Hongwen Qingdao School (HWSQD), Hua Fu International School (HFI), Shen Wai International School (SWIS), U-Link College (ULC) , Vanke Meisha Academy (VMA)and many more.

This year's theme was "A Post Pandemic Changing World." Covid-19 created a chasm in time—a period before and after the pandemic. The conference served to address—from health, humanitarian, economic and social aspects— the complications that lay in the aftermath. Delegates took part in an intense 3-day session where they came up with innovative ways to tackle to issue at hand.

And now, for those who came, for those who didn't but anticipate SCIEMUN next year, and for those who wish to understand the adrenaline, professionalism, and thrill of becoming a delegate, please join us in this walkthrough of our 3-day conference.

Day 1

Rain fell like strands of silver from the sky. Droplets inked the delegate's blazers, but they didn’t tamper the delegate's spirits. Some were enthused, anticipating the fruitful discussions and fierce squabbles ahead. Others were understandably anxious about the somber discussions and intimidating debates to come.

In Halo Theater, our Pastoral Deputy Principal Ms. Karen Clancy and the Assistant Secretary General of Global Forum on Human Settlements Mr. Nick Wilshire delivered opening remarks and saw our delegates off on the start of their MUN journey.

As delegates filed into their committee classrooms, one by one, they conquered the first beast—opening speeches. Compulsory for each representative, they gave minute-long speeches on the topic, exploring various stances and answering questions.

Day 3

Thus, the debate commenced.

Each and every committee was filled with outspoken voices and mounds of notepaper. The admins rushed to transport each amendment, strike, and note to and from the delegates to the chairs. Chairs scrambled to type up the amendments, and delegates eagerly raised their hands, barely containing their excitement. Heated debates ensued, but at the end of each battle lay the resolution.

When the clock struck six on November 5th, all the fun and games came to an end. But each brave delegate had found the ultimate treasure in their numerous triumphs: the meaning of Model United Nations, or in other words——friendship, cooperation, and diplomacy.
